The Founder’s Story

The Infradian Rhythm Volvelle began with a question I found myself asking as a new mother:

What wisdom do I hope to pass on to my daughter?

I was 36 years old when I first heard author Alisa Vitti speak about the infradian rhythm and the profound influence hormonal cycles have on a woman's energy, creativity, focus, emotions, and well-being. Like many women of my generation, I had spent decades viewing my cycle as something to manage and hide.

Growing up in the 1990s, periods were rarely discussed openly. They were often treated as an inconvenience, a source of embarrassment, or something to hide. I don't remember being taught that the menstrual cycle could be a source of insight or self-understanding. I certainly wasn't taught that it might influence the way I work, create, rest, nourish myself, or move through the world.

At the same time I was discovering this information, I was navigating early motherhood during the lockdown of 2020. The stillness of that season created space for curiosity. I began reading everything I could find about women's cyclical health, ancient feminine traditions, and the recurring patterns found throughout nature.

As an artist with a background in graphic design, book arts and printmaking; I became fascinated by a simple question:

Could this wisdom be printed on paper & held in the hands?

Inspired by a planisphere I had once received as a gift, I began designing a rotating paper instrument that would help women visualize the phases of their cycle alongside the phases of the moon.

The first prototype was built entirely by hand at my kitchen table.

Over the next five years, I revised, tested, redesigned, and refined the concept again and again. What began as a personal exploration gradually evolved into the Infradian Rhythm Volvelle: a patent-pending paper instrument designed to help women better understand their cyclical nature through education, reflection, and ritual.

The Volvelle helps women:

• Track their cycle alongside the lunar phases
• Understand the energetic themes of each phase
• Explore guidance for mind, body, and nourishment
• Learn foundational cycle education
• Create a monthly ritual of self-reflection and awareness

Throughout the design process, I wanted to create something that felt both practical and meaningful. The Volvelle offers enough symbolism to spark curiosity while remaining approachable and useful in everyday life.

Most importantly, I wanted to create something beautiful.

Something worthy of being displayed rather than tucked away.

An heirloom tool that could gather meaning through use.

Inspire interesting conversations that might eventually be shared between generations.

On the Summer Solstice, June 20, 2026, I am honored to release the First Edition of the Infradian Rhythm Volvelle.

This limited edition release consists of 1,000 copies, each designed, printed, and hand assembled in California.

My hope is simple.

That women who use this tool begin to trust themselves more deeply.

That they learn to work with their rhythms rather than against them.

That mothers and daughters find meaningful ways to talk about the wisdom of the body.

And that through a small paper instrument, they discover a greater sense of connection to themselves, to nature, and to the season of life they are living.
